Cannot boot Windows after resizing/upgrading to El Capitan (Captain Loner T?)
Hello, Bonjour !
First of all, english isn’t my first language so please excuse any mistakes
I upgraded to El Capitan and decided at the same time to resize and expand the bootcamp partition via disk utility. I read here and there that was a terrible idea.
I had 2 partitions: OS X Yosemite and Windows 10. Both worked fine until i upgraded to El Capitan. Bootcamp partition doesn’t show up when holding down the option key (only mac OS and backup partition). But it seems my bootcamp partition does appear in finder and i am able to access to my files through it.
Loner T, i read most of your answers here and i’m not really confident doing this alone. Can you please help me to figure this out?
Here are some screenshots of the following commands:
diskutil list
diskutil cs list
sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0
sudo fdisk /dev/disk0
Many thanks in advance for your help !
El Capitan is rubbish
Since downloading this new operating system my computer seems to be slower than ever before. Whenever I clear out my cookies – as I have always had to do to keep the dratted computer from crashing – and try to get back online, Safari tells me every time without fail that I am no longer connected to the internet and I have to go over to Firefox (which works first time – every time incidentally) This morning I have now discovered that my version of Logic (Logic Express 9) doesn’t seem to work with this operating system and has crashed 4 times out of 4 attempts to open a new file.
Perhaps Apple could come along and tell me in simple terms without any techno gobbldegook why this is happening, or is it as my cynicism would lead me to believe yet another attempt by Apple to part me from some more of my hard earned cash to upgrade my Logic and/or entire computer system. ?
As great as I think apple products are I have rapidly become VERY disillusioned with Apple the company’s mercenary games to make themselves ever richer and if windows wasn’t so rubbish I would seriously consider going back to it.

Slow upgrade on OSX El Capitan
I have a new MacBook Pro Retina display 8 GB RAM 256 GB Memory 2015 – I am trying to download free OSX El Capitan; has taken several hours, seems to be stuck about 1/3 thru download. Have pauseed and resumed – still does not upload. Anyone elsee had an upload problem?? has it been resolved?
El Capitan causes Thunderbolt Display’s USB-port-problem
In Mavericks and Yosemite my Thunderbolt Display worked as expected. If my MBP Retina was turned on I could just plug in (hot-plug) the Thunderbolt display cable and all peripherals (usb hub, keyboard, mouse, external sound card, hard drives etc.) that are normally connected to the back of the display would instantly work.
Last week I upgraded to El Capitan (10.11.1). Now when I connect my (turned on) MBP to the Thunderbolt Display, the display/screen turns on but none of my USB-connected peripherals work. If I reboot the MBP while still connected to the Thunderbolt display everything works fine.
It frustrates me that I have to reboot every time I need to “dock” my MBP with the Display. Clearly this is a software issue with El Capitan. I am of course running the newest Thunderbolt Display firmware (v 1.2 from Nov. 2014) and I have been, since it was released. So the problem is a direct result of the OSX 10.11.1 update and not a hardware issue.
Does anyone know a way to possibly fix this without having to try to format and clean install everything?
Preview generation is broken in Aperture and El Capitan
My process is, duplicate images, apply a BW preset, invert the selection and apply a color preset. Then I have a set of images in color and BW.HOWEVER, once I do this, previews are completely messed up as you see in the attachment.
I have to delete previews, then go to preferences, change the size of the previews and then generate previews. Even then some are still messed up.
Simply deleting and regenerating previews isn’t the solution, I have to change the size of them in preferences then generate them again.
This only happened after going to El Capitan.
Turning on/off on screen proofing doesn’t work.

iPhoto 9.6.1 (910.42) Crashing On El Capitan (2012 iMac)
iPhoto 9.6.1 (910.42) seems to work on El Capitan, but I have been experiencing frequent crashes after long periods of editing Keywords and Photos. The crashes wipe out all work done during that session and have caused me to wonder whether iPhoto will continue to function much longer. After batch-adding multiple Keywords, Titles and photo edits to perhaps two hundred pictures, iPhoto has crashed on several occasions and all the new metadata was gone. Just yesterday I loaded 100 photos from my SD Card and edited them in a single session when a crash occurred, and not only were the edits gone, but the photos were gone from my Library, too. I was able to recover the deleted photos from the SD Card using a SanDisk Utility program, but had to re-edit all the photos in a new iPhoto session.
I have noticed that if I close and reopen iPhoto during a session, it does save the changes made up to that time. However, most of my recent extended sessions where I have cut and pasted Titles to multiple pictures and added multiple Keywords have caused a crash. My Library has grown to about 14,000 photos (230 GB), but I wouldn’t think that is unusual for many users. I am not sure if there is something I might do to restore stability beyond restarting the program and my computer more frequently.
I have been reluctant to transition to the new Photos program, though I have tried it and have about 1,000 pictures in iCloud. I like the security of having the photos professionally protected, but haven’t found the interface particularly friendly. I also noticed that the Photos program has duplicated many of my pictures and seemingly triplicated some as well. If I am paying for storage by volume, I don’t really appreciate any duplications. And the additional work in deleting the duplicated images has been laborious.
If anyone has advice on how to improve the stability of iPhoto on ElCapitan running on my 21.5 inch iMac (2012), or insight into the possible cause of my crashes, I would be most grateful for any guidance. Thanks for reading about my issues and for any assistance you might provide. Best to all.
iMovies appear as green screen after El Capitan update
I just updated to El Capitan iOS because I heard it is faster. the first thing I did was open iMovies, which had been notoriously slow, only to find that my laboriously edited movies now view mostly as a solid green screen or a black screen. Countless hours of editing pics and video went into making these movies. Does anyone know a solution? Is all my work lost? I’m on an iMac that is about 4 years old. Have done several previous software updates.
